Experimental Tag Cloud Media Page
Tag clouds are still cool right?
This media page replaces the standard playlist filters with tag clouds.
To experience your music 2.0 style, load your library, then select Tag Cloud from the View menu. Click the tags to toggle filtering on and off.
If you can think of a better way to browser a library (HA!),
visit http://songbirdnest.com/add-on-api/articles/med…
and build your own view.

Great idea! I know this is just the first version, but in case this isn’t being planned, I’d like to suggest a customizable list of metadata tags to be used in the tag cloud. For instance, I have most of my music tagged with metadata like “Mood,” “Style,” “Publisher,” etc. An options window that allowed me to add or remove metadata tags from the drop-down would be great.
Some of these fields have multiple values too, so that would be something to watch out for.
Thanks for this add-on! Haven’t run into any bugs yet (though I haven’t had a chance to use it much).
Good idea Jimmy. I’ll try to get that in the next version.
Great stuff, I have a skin made and for some reason the tag cloud font is black so it matches the background, do you know how to change the font color for the tag cloud?
Thanks!
I’m a big fan of the tag clouds business, but after trying it this is really just a remapping of the Filter Pane view to look like a tag cloud.
One small tweak that would make this much better would be to change the drop down select for Genre/Artist/Album and instead display it sideways across the top--right now that whole line above the tag cloud isn’t being used at all.
Another option I would like to see would be to have all the ‘tags’ from the 3 different dropdown options displayed in one cloud, and then as you click to filter by one tag it would replace the tag cloud with all the tags that fit under the selected tag.
One last minor request: the ability to resize the tag cloud area so that I can see more tags!
Ok, I spot a bug in your addon :
1–Set your view to “3 filters view” (default one)
2–set the 3 filters to Artist/Album/Year
3–set your view to tagcloud and change to artist→album etc…
4–change back to view “3 filters view”
You can see the order of filters is change…
In my case Style/Album/Artist :(
Hope this will be fixe :)
I like the idea of a tag cloud, but when I turn it on, it pegs my CPU. Is it indexing everything?
Also, it most certainly does not have all my artists or albums in the cloud.
Granted, I have 7000 songs in there, but there isn’t any option about how"deep" the cloud goes, and it appears to be missing a lot of my music.
hey matt.
many happy thx for a great addon.
I have a suggestion though.
could be a nice feat if you could exclude tags as well as include them.
for example: right now i wanna listen to some rock… so i select rock in your brilliant addon and hit shuffle. but Im really not in the mood for RHCP so if one could select RHCP in a exclude mode or so…
I still like the addon as is. good work.

is there any hope to see this plugin ported for 0.6 version? thx
Got Songbird specifically for this plugin, and now I find it will not install with the latest version! (0.61) Any idea when it will be integrated or able to be used with a work-around? I've been waiting SO LONG for a feature like this (and I'm not a programmer so I can't just go out and build it...)
is there any intention to continue development of this for 0.7?
Like with Happysin, this only lists a small portion of my media. have about 10,000 songs in my library and it only lists something like 20-30 artists/albums. This is alot like the other media view, Photo, which seems like a really cool concept but is essentially useless cause it doesnt show me all of my media. Maybe you could make it so that the user can scroll through more clouds when they have a large library, like with Mediaflow?
idk just suggestions. I like the idea and would love to be able to use it.
I agree with katana, and hope a way to browse all artists in a library using the tag cloud can be implemented. I will redownload as soon as that becomes a feature.
